1307146 Cartridge loading arrangement STAAR SA 21 June 1971 [26 Feb 1971] 29043/71 Heading G5R In a recorder adapted for playing a cartridge 12, Fig. 1, of the type in which in its progress from, and back to, a central reel the tape 13 is twisted to lie in a plane parallel to the principal planes of the cartridge, progressive insertion of the cartridge into an inclined passage in the machine firstly depresses a spring 40, Fig. 5A, then it impinges upon a member 31, 33, Fig. 5, which is thereby pushed down to cause an extension 34 thereof to release a member 35 carrying roller 17 which is spring urged to the right as shown in Fig. 5, the roller 17 then enters the cartridge, Fig. 6, to bear on the tape, and the axle 18 of the roller pushes the lower end of the cartridge to the right, which in turn pushes a slide 50, 51, 52 to the right, Fig. 7. Thus finally the cartridge assumes a vertical position, Fig. 7A, with a recess 42 in its side wall engaging with a projection 44 in the machine, and with the roller 17 pressing the tape 13, Fig. 7, against a drive shaft 5. The cartridge is maintained in this position by the joint action of the spring 40, Fig. 7A, and the spring urged roller 17, Fig. 7. The cartridge is ejected by moving a lever (not shown) which withdraws the roller 17 from the cartridge. This causes the axle of the roller to impinge upon the slide 50, which is thereby moved to the left taking the cartridge with it. Once the recess 42 in the wall of the cartridge is clear of the projection 44 in the machine, the spring 40 ejects the cartridge and the member 34, 31 rises to lock the roller 17 in its inactive position, Fig. 5.
