Abstract

1420499 Tape cartridges INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 1 Oct 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 45755/73 Heading B8M [Also in Division G5 The apparatus has a hopper 30 and a record member cartridge 10 for insertion therein, and interengaging means on the hopper and cartridge to lock the cartridge in the hopper upon inserting the cartridge 10 in direction 21, against the action of a resilient bias 41, and then letting go, unlocking being effected by again pushing the cartridge 10 in direction 21 and letting go. On first insertion of the cartridge 10 a pin 37, on an arm 31 pivotable horizontally and vertically on a stud 32 against a spring 34, is moved by a guide surface 11 into the entrance part 13 of a W-shaped groove 12 in the lower planar surface of the cartridge, and when the cartridge is released a spring 41 co-operates with spring 34 to engage pin 37 in a part 14 of groove 12 and lock the cartridge in the hopper. A further movement of cartridge 10 in direction 21 causes pin 37 to enter an exit ramp part 15 of groove 12, spring 41 then effecting partial or complete ejection of the cartridge from the hopper. Recording or playback may take place with the record member inside the cartridge or partly or wholly external thereto. The cartridge may contain one or more information carrying discs, or a tape, e.g. magnetic.
