Abstract

1305287 Time delay electric switch ARROWHART (EUROPE) Ltd 22 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 24886/70 Heading H1N An electric switch unit, which may be part of an electromagnetic relay and be arranged with its contacts in series with the relay coil so that the coil circuit is interrupted for a set time after de-energization of the coil, has a pneumatic time delay device comprising a bellows 20 arranged to collapse on actuation and extend, at a rate dependent on the size of an adjustable orifice 34, on release. The check valve is similar to that described in Specification 1,305,112 and has a spring 28 urging the bellows end 21 against a disc member 34. The orifice size is controlled by an adjustable pin 32. The bellows 20 is biased to the extended position by a spring 22 of sufficient strength to overcome a spring 23 so that a carrier 19 on which the spring 23 acts is held in a position such that the snap-action contact arms 13 thereon engage fixed contacts 18. When the relay coil (not shown) is energized, the actuator 40 is moved downward and a projection 66 thereof engages the carrier 19 to hold the contacts in the position referred to above. As the actuator is moved downward connected arms 61, 62 are rotated about fixed pivots 63 and their inner ends engage a washer 27 fixed on the plunger 26 of the bellows so as to collapse the bellows. When the relay coil is de-energized the actuator is released so that the spring 23 moves the carrier 19 upward to change-over the contacts 13, and the bellows are also released so that after a set time the bellows plunger 26 engages the carrier 19 to reset the contacts to the position shown.
