Abstract

1305172 Inhalers AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 7 Jan 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 898/71 Heading A5T [Also in Division B2] In an inhaler in which a dose of powder is flushed out of a medicament chamber by gas from an aerosol propellant cartridge, the gas enters the chamber perpendicularly to the entrance on conduct of the mouth or nose piece and the chamber contains an agitator to break up clumps of powder. As shown, a dose of powder is shaken into chamber (3), whose volume can be varied by adjusting the position of plug 5. On releasing the gas from the cartridge into duct 9, the turbulence set up agitates ball 6 to -break up clumps of powder and causes the powder to discharge, through screen 4, into the mouthpiece (2). In another form, a dose contained in a half capsule (20, Fig. 7, not shown) is placed in an inhaler having a nosepiece (15) and a tube (19) for connection to the cartridge. The capsule acts as the agitator.
