Abstract

1304368 Hydraulic shock absorbers ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO Ltd 19 June 1970 [1 July 1969] 33155/69 Heading F2S In a tube-within-a-tube type shock absorber with valved piston 16 and valved cylinder base 22, the piston has at least two compression valves 34 and at least two rebound valves 36, all of which are adjustable to enable them to be set to respond to required fluid pressure loadings. Preferably the valves are arranged as shown in Fig. 2, adjustable individually by means of nuts 42, and each consists of a closure member 38 biased by a spring 40 against a seat in the piston. Additional damping may be provided by tapered slots 54 formed in the inner wall of the inner tube 10, and another valve 24-26, 28, 30 in the piston. This valve is also adjustable.
