Abstract

1303475 Pipe couplings CAPE ENG CO Ltd 8 Oct 1971 [8 Oct. 1970] 47802/70 Heading F2G In a pipe coupling which may be used in a system for administering air, oxygen or other gas to a patient, a pipe 2 is axially slid into a socket 1 and accidental separation is thereafter prevented by the engagement of a locking member 10 which is slidable in a groove 9 on the socket 1 from a locked position in which portions 11 of the member 10 extend through slots 8 in the groove 9 to engage a circumferential groove 4 on the pipe 2 to an unlocked position in which the locking member portions 11 lie in the groove 9 without extending through the slots 8. As shown, the locking member 10 may comprise a spring clip having legs 11 and a head 13 by means of which the clip may be rotated in a radial plane through 90 degrees between locked and unlocked position. The slots 8 extend on diametrically opposite parts of the socket 1. Tapered surfaces 7 in the socket 1 and on a leading portion 6 of the pipe 2 engage to seal the coupling. The pipe groove 4 may be wide enough to receive also a retaining bead 5 on a flexible hose 3. The socket 1 may be attached to or integral with apparatus or it may have pipereceiving sockets at both ends. A plastics slide may replace the spring clip as locking member.
