Fresh gas is induced into an engine B from a carburetter A, in the direction AB, Fig.1, through a pipe 1 having a circular cross-section faired core 2. The core 2 is supported by stays 3 and may be movable axially for tuning purposes by a rod 6. The core 2 has a point at its end which faces the carburetter and a funnel shaped recess, which may carry a tapering point centrally, at the end facing the engine. Openings 4 deflect the gas entering the recess into the fresh gas stream in the direction AB. The annular gap between the pipe 1 and core 2 narrows in the direction AB.
