Abstract

1302829 Laminating apparatus and process GRILLO-WERKE AG 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23458/71 Heading B5N An apparatus for use in the continuous production of a sheet structure from a fibrereinforced synthetic resin material, comprises a base 1, e.g. a roller track or a belt conveyer, for transport thereover of a continuous substrate means for supply of a flexible substrate 3 for transport over the base, means for supplying a liquid synthetic resin 4 to the substrate, means for supplying a random array of fibres to the substrate to form a tangled mass of fibres in the synthetic resin, a pair of calendering rollers 7 and 8 downstream of the supply means for the fibres, a plurality of parallel filaments 10 secured upstream of the nip of the calendering rollers terminating downstream of the nip of the rollers and held, in use, between the nip 6 of the rollers so as to terminate downstream of the calendering rollers and means for supply to the said nip of a flexible surface covering 11 for the sheet structure as it passes through the nip of the rollers, the nip of the rollers being so located in relation to the supply and withdrawal paths of the covered substrate and of the flexible surface covering with respect thereto that, in use, the covered substrate contacts firstly one roller 7 alone and then, after passing through said nip contacts the other roller 8 alone, undergoing inflexion as it passes through the nip of the rollers. The substrate and the covering are both formed from a material which enables them to be detached from the product.
