Abstract

1302805 Crash restraint bags NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 20 April 1971 [25 April 1970] 10313/71 Heading B7B [Also in Division F4] In a vehicle crash restraint device having a bag inflatable by pressurized gas the gas supply container 13 is closed by a destructible seal 14 which is ruptured by forceful movement imparted to destroying means 16 in response to a collision. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the outlet 13a of the container carries a housing 15 having a bore 15a in which a plunger 16 is mounted and a bore 15b communicating with the crash bag. On collision a detector 10 fires an explosion charge 18 which moves plunger 16 to rupture the seal 14. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the seal is fixed to a member which is explosively moved away from the container during collision. The container may be filled with pressurized or liquefied gas, or may contain a substance which generates gas on being exploded.
