Abstract

1302375 Measuring fluid-flow BIOLOGICAL INSTRUMENTS Ltd 19 Oct 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 40004/69 Heading G1R [Also in Division A5] A gas flow monitoring device, for example in a respirator, comprises a rotatably mounted vane 9 adapted to rotate in the same sense irrespective of the direction of gas flow through the device, and means for sensing the speed of rotation of the vane, such as magnets 11 which on rotation of the vane induce currents in a coil 12. The constant sense of rotation of the vane is achieved by positioning holes 4 and 5 in a housing 1 on opposite sides of a vane spindle 10 so that irrespective of whether the gas flow is in the direction of arrow a or arrow b the rotation will be anticlockwise. In a modification, Fig.2 (not shown), the vane is constructed as two aerofoils (15) one on each side of a spindle (14).
