Abstract

1301760 Explosively actuated stud driving tools OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 29 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 35698/71 Heading B4C An explosively actuated stud driving tool comprises a stud driving ram 16 and an igniting ram 18 slidable in a bore 14, and an opening 42 through which a pellet e.g. of nitro cellulose can be introduced into the bore when sleeve 44 is in the illustrated position. Rotation of the sleeve 44 relative to handle 12 effects closure of the opening 42 by the sleeve. With a pellet in the bore the igniting ram 18 is moved to a piston in which the pellet is wedged between the rams. Application of a hammer blow to the knob 20 then effects ignition of the pellet and driving of stud 76. A recess in the driving ram receives the head of the stud, and a magnet 74 holds the stud and washer 80 in the bore prior to firing. A further magnet 74<SP>1</SP> holds items, such as clips and washers, when such items are to be secured to a work surface by a stud. The pellet engaging faces of the rams 16, 18 have radial grooves 72, 60 respectively. (For Figures see next page.)
