Brake mechanism. - In a bicycle &c. fitted with a reciprocating foot-plate drive 19, 13, the lower axle 28 is arranged to actuate a brakechain 26, which rotates pinions 24, 24<b> in the reverse direction to that of the vehicle wheels 2, 3. The brake is normally held raised, but by pressure upon a spring plunger 33<a> it can be depressed into contact with the ground, and in this position it can be retained by pressing forward a slidable wedge-piece 30, 34 to engage with a lug 32 upon the plunger.
