Abstract
1300941 Missile launcher simulators SOLARTRON ELECTRONIC GROUP Ltd 24 Feb 1970 [27 Feb 1969] 10663/69 Heading F3C A missile launcher simulator comprises a sight 10, a radiation source 11 for simulating the missile and for projecting a beam of radiation towards a target, a linkage between the sight 10 and the source for orienting the source in an orientation related to the orientation of the sight 10 in dependence upon a control signal, a means for generating the control signal in response to changes in the orientation of the sight and in response to difference information concerning the difference in orientations of the sight and the source. The orientation of the source 11 is controlled by elevation and azimuth motors 12, 13 each motor being actuated by its associated elevation or azimuth circuit. A spot of light issuing from a spot injection unit 14 is introduced into the field of view of the sight 10 to indicate the orientation of the source. The circuits are fed by a respective rate giro which is connected to the sight-launcher assembly and a signal dependent upon the orientation of the source 11 to produce a difference signal which drives the respective motor. After a certain "time of flight" of the simulated projectile the system is converted from an automatically correcting system to a manually correcting system by the actuation of a switch 34 by a relay 57. From thence the orientation of the source is controlled by a lever 37 actuating a pair of potentiometers 36, 38. The source 11 is a pulsed infra-red laser and initially, from the pulses, the target distance is measured by employing infra-red detectors and a transmitter at the target (Fig. 2, not shown). The range at any time is memorized by a target range counter register 55. This range is compared with the signal from a missile range timer 54 such that when these are equivalent a "hit" signal is applied to the pulse generator 53. This signal changes the p.r.f. of the source 11 and if the source is oriented in the correct direction within predetermined limits a hit display in the target is illuminated. Smoke may also be liberated and the weaponry of the target immobilized. A signal may also be relayed back to the launching position. To indicate a near miss the source may be scanned as is disclosed in Specifications 1,228,143 and 1,228,144.
