Abstract

1299722 Wrapping continuous rods MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd 17 April 1970 [18 April 1969] 20001/69 Heading A2C In an apparatus for producing a continuous rod such as a cigarette rod or a filter rod, in which a wrapper web 4 is fed on to a garniture bed 1, a filler is deposited on the web 4 and the two are passed into a folding arrangement 3, and wherein two lines of an adhesive 17, 18 capable of reactivation by heating are deposited one along each marginal portion of the web 4 but at opposite faces thereof, the two lines of adhesive 17, 18 are dried before the two marginal portions of the wrapper web 4 are folded one on to the other, and the two lines 17, 18 are then reactivated by the application of heat to cause them to adhere to each other and thus to form a bonded seam along the wrapper 4. As shown, the filler is a web of filter material 5 which is condensed by a frusto conical guide 7 and fed onto the wrapper web 4 under a single tongue 6 of inverted channel cross-section. Polyvinyl acetate adhesive is applied to both margins of the web 4 in turn at stations 15, 16, and then dried by a first heater 12. The folding arrangement 3 comprises a first folder 13 which folds over one edge of the wrapper 4, and a second folder 14 which incorporates a second heater and which both folds down the other edge of the wrapper 4 and heat seals the two edges together.
