1297949 Releasable fastenings INGERSOLL LOCKS Ltd 23 June 1970 [25 March 1969] 15573/69 Heading E2A A lock comprises a bolt member 7 operable by rotational movement of a recessed male actuating element 10 which is adapted to engage a cooperating socket extending centrally into the end portion of a female key 16 the arrangement being such that said end portion of the key is adapted to engage the actuating element whence rotational movement of the key is transmitted into said element thereby operating the bolt member, the male actuating element being of oval cross section. In the construction shown the recess is provided in a body 1; the recess being threaded and the actuating element is attached to an actuating member in the form of a disc 14, the periphery of which is threaded so that rotation of the actuating element by the key moves the disc axially of the recess. The bolt member is slidably mounted in the recess with one end face in engagement with the disc and the opposite end portion passing through a hole in a flange of the body, the hole and the cross sectional shape of the bolt member being such that rotation of the bolt member is prevented. Thus rotation of the actuating element rotates the disc which in turn moves the bolt member axially so that its end portion protrudes further from the hole in the flange. In the case of a sash window the lock is fitted to the uppermost sash and when the bolt member is in a protruding position it prevents openings of the sash more than a limited extent by coming into engagement with a plate secured to the lower sash. In the case of a casement window the bolt member when in the protruding position protrudes through a hole in a keeper secured to the casement the lock being secured to the frame.
