Abstract

1296997 Electro-photographic copiers RANK XEROX Ltd 22 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 62311/69 Heading G2H An electro-photographic copier comprises image forming, developing and transfer stations but no separate cleaning station; the developing station serving both to remove residual toner left from a previous copy cycle and to develop a new electrostatic latent image formed on top of the residual toner. As shown, as toner and carrier particles are cascaded down a drum 11, the carrier particles remove residual toner and the toner particles develop the new latent image. Preferably an electrically biassed development electrode 26 and guide baffle 27 are provided. Electrode 26 may comprise a solid sheet, a screen, or a series of wires or points. The specification also describes cascading developer down an inclined plate; fur brush developing; fluidized bed development (the developer being agitated by a gas stream or by mechanical vibration); and development by passage through a C-shaped trough of developer.
