Abstract

1296375 Core constructions JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 16 March 1970 [28 March 1969] 16411/69 Heading H2A In a rotor assembly having a winding 14 located in a circumferentially extending groove in a core piece 13 mounted on a shaft 11, the groove has sloping side walls and a pair of pole claws 18, 19 are mounted at opposite ends of the core, the fingers 18a, 19a of the claws being interdigitated and overhanging the winding. The groove may be of triangular cross-section or may have a central cylindrical part, as shown. The walls of the groove are coated with an insulating adhesive prior to forming the winding. The end conductors 16a of the winding pass through bores in the pole claw 18 and through grooves formed in the shaft under a rotor bearing 21. The core 13 may be of single piece construction or may be formed in two parts; the two parts may be formed integrally with a respective pole claw.
