Abstract

1296136 Amine/epoxide polysiloxane compositions E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 3 April 1970 [3 April 1969] 16013/70 Heading C3T [Also in Division D1] Synthetic organic fibres are softened by the application of a composition containing a mixture of (A) an uncrosslinked polyepoxide and an aminosiloxane containing only primary and/or secondary amino groups, or (B) a liquid epoxysiloxane containing at least 1% epoxy and a polyamine containing only primary and/or secondary amino groups, or (C) said aminosiloxane and said epoxysiloxane, followed by curing, e.g. by heating at 110-160‹ C. for 15- 40 mins. The siloxane compounds may contain units of formulµ and wherein R is C 1-4 alkyl, C 6-9 aryl, -ANHR<SP>1</SP> or A is C 2-5 alkylene or C 6-10 arylene; X is -NHR<SP>1</SP> or R<SP>1</SP> is H, C 1-4 alkyl or C 6-9 aryl. When X is -NHR<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>1</SP> and A are selected so that no more than one aromatic ring is attached directly to the N atom. In examples, acrylonitrile based and polyethyleneterephthalate fibres are treated before making up into goods. The compositions exemplified are based on an aminosiloxane of formula wherein x + y = 200 or 500 together with (i) a polyepoxide derived from glycerine and epichlorhydrin, (ii) resorcinol diglycidyl ether or (iii) 1,3 - bis - (3 - glycidoxypropyl) - tetramethyldisiloxane; or an epoxysiloxane and 1,6- diaminohexane. The compositions may be dispersed in aqueous media or dissolved in, e.g. methylene chloride, benzene or ethanol.
