Abstract
1295758 Developing electrostatic images XEROX CORP 28 May 1970 [4 June 1969(3)] 25638/70 Heading G2H A magnetic brush developing apparatus comprises two brushes 70 and 80 close enough together for their magnetic fields to combine to convey developer in the form of bristles across the space therebetween and in contact with a latent image on a drum 1, a vaned churn 20 in the sump part of the housing also being provided for mixing the developer and lifting it to a control device comprising magnetic pick-off roller 60 and a pivotable bridge 31 which is actuated to allow passage of developer to the upper magnetic brush 70. The bridge 31 is rotatably mounted and controlled by a solenoid either to contact rotating cylinder 60, which receives developer from churn 20, whereupon developer is scraped from cylinder 60 and conveyed, or to pivot away from cylinder 60, whereupon developer falls back into the sump. The churn comprises a plurality of spaced vanes 21, Fig. 6 (not shown) positioned in herring-bone fashion so that developer is conveyed from the outer edges of sump 51 to the centre portion. A plurality of developing units may effect multicolour reproduction.
