Abstract

1294658 Jointing; brazing; welding by fusion BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 3 Feb 1970 [13 Nov 1968 4 Feb 1969] 53888/68 and 5983/69 Headings B3R and B3V [Also in Division F2] Jointing.-A pipe joint is produced by electrohydraulically deforming the pipe ends 10, 12, into tapered screw-threaded sections 11,-14 and screwing the two pipes together, followed by a suitable bonding process. Welding.-Spacer rings 15, are mounted on the screw-threaded section 14 before the pipes are screwed together to provide a passage for a flow of inner gas to purge the welding or brazing areas. The rings 15 melts slightly above the minimum welding or brazing temperature, so that the pipes 10 and 12 can spring back to closely embrace each other. The rings 15 may be of brazing metal. Welding is preferably carried out by an orbital welding device.
