Abstract

1294446 Distributing fibres, lap forming MOTALA VERKSTAD AB 22 Oct 1969 [22 Oct 1968] 51686/69 Heading DIN [Also in Division B8] A main stream of particles, e.g. lead shot wood chips or fibres, is subdivided by being formed into a tubular stream on passing axially through a chamber 15 which contains a rotating fluid, e.g. air or liquid, and then being divided into a plurality of secondary streams in outlets 20. These outlets are separated from each other by a plurality of walls 17. The chamber 15 is cylindrical or has a plurality of coaxial cylindrical portions of different radii. As shown, the particles pass through the chamber 15 under the influence of a gravitational or magnetic field. The particles may be carried in the fluid medium to the chamber. The fluid is rotated by vanes 40, 41 or by introducing the fluid into the chamber tangentially. The lower portion of the chamber 15 can have studs on its walls, or can contain a contrarotating central portion 29 to cause turbulence and stop the rotational flow of the particles and allow them to settle uniformly through outlets 20. The particles can be introduced into the chamber at one point, or from a number of points. The fluid may flow through the chamber 15 in a direction opposite to that of the particles. The outlets 20 can feed the fibres through chutes onto spiked rolls which feed them onto a conveyor so as to form a fibre layer thereon. This fibre layer can be hot pressed to form a board.
