Abstract
1294431 Hooks; clamps J C RENFROE & SONS Inc 21 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10350/71 Headings E2A and E2B A clamp for clamping a beam flange 16 comprises opposed fixed and pivoting hooks 12, 13, a plate 10 secured to the fixed hook 12, and plates 29 extending from the plate 10 for mounting the pivoting hook 13, the pivoting hook having an upwardly projecting flange bearing surface 33 and a wedge 14 to retain the hooks in the clamping position irrespective of whether or not a load is applied to the clamp. The hooks 12, 13 each comprises two spaced parallel members, the members of the pivoting hook being connected by a spacer rod 26 and having a hinge pin 27, the end portions of which extend into slots 30 in the plates 29. In clamping position the end portions of the hinge pin 27 engage in an end, inner lateral extension of the slots and during releasing pivoting movement of the hook the pin moves to the other outer end of the slots. A hoist plate 21 may be secured to hook 12. The upper and lower surfaces of the wedge may be concave and the plate 10 may have a wedge receiving recess 39. The clamp may be used for hoisting or suspending a load or loads.
