Abstract

1294336 Martensitic stainless steel CARPENTER TECHNOLOGY CORP 4 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 54091/69 Heading C7A Corrosion resistant martensitic stainless steel comprises:- the balance, apart from incidental impurities, being Fe; wherein (1) any C above 0À03% is stabilized by the addition of one or more of 10Î%C of Nb, 5Î%C of Ti and (5-10)x%C of Ta, V and/or Zr, (2) the Nieq, calculated as %Ni+ %Cu + %Mn + 30Î%C* +30Î%N + %Co, 2 3 (wherein C* is unstabilized C when the C content is less than 0À03%) is 4À37-10%, (3) the Cr e.g., calculated as %Cr+%Mo+3/2%Si is 14-18À5% and (4) the Cr e.g. and Ni e.g. are so related that for Ni e.g. 4À37% the Cr e.g. is no more than 16%, for Cr e.g. 16-85% the Ni e.g. is 4À37-8À6%, for Cr e.g. of 14% the Ni e.g. is no more than 10% and as the Cr e.g. increases from 14-18À5 the max. Ni e.g. decreases from 10% to 8À6%. The alloy may be annealed at 1700-2100‹F., water quenched, aged at 800- 1000‹F. and air cooled.
