Abstract

1293907 Automatic tuning circuits ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 10 Dec 1969 [10 Dec 1968] 58553/68 Heading H3A [Also in Division H2] In an automatic tuning circuit, a tuned circuit includes a capacitor c and an amplifier 12-14 and the input signals developed across the tuned circuit and a resistance R D are applied to a phase comparator 6-11 whose output controls the gain of the amplifier so as to vary the effective impedance of the capacitor in a sense tending to maintain the tuned circuit in resonance with the input signal frequency. In operation, the phase comparator phase-shifts the input a by 90 degrees at 6, squares the inputs a, b at 7, 9 using one of the squared signals as a clamp for the other and applies the clamped signal to an integrator 11. The integrator output is applied to a potential divider 12, 13 having a voltage variable element, e.g. FET 12. The instantaneous output at the junction of resistors R 1 , R 2 is thus designed to be indicative of amplitude and vector changes only of the input signal.
