Abstract

1292598 Coatings ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 11 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 58845/68 Heading B2E Surfaces are coated by spraying granules consisting of finely divided chromic oxide with chromic acid as a binder through a flame or plasma arc at a temperature sufficient to fuse the chromic oxide and decompose the chromic acid and causing the granules to impinge on the surface to be coated. The. granules may have a size distribution in the range 150-400 mesh B.S. In the flame spraying method the temperature is in the range 2,000-3,000‹C., using, e.g. an oxyacetylene flame and in the plasma spray method the temperature may be up to 30,000‹C. The method may be used to coat a steel surface.
