Tools for setting-out work.-In a micrometer scribing block or gauge of the kind in which a base carries the fixed stop and a pillar, while an arm vertically adjustable on the pillar carries the movable stop, the arm together with the pillar is rotatable about the vertical axis of the latter, and the endways position of the pillar is accurately located with reference to the base by means of collars or the like. The base A having the fixed stop A<2> carries a pillar B upon which is secured a collar L the under-face of which is ground true and is held in firm contact with the similarly treated upper surface of the base A, by a wedge clamping device. This device comprises a divided ring K coned to engage a cone J on the, end of the pillar, each half of the ring being operated by a screw K<2> to cause the collar L to bear firmly on the base. An arm C slides on the pillar, to which it may be clamped at E, and has secured to it two keys H sliding in keyways in the pillar, the ends of the keys projecting and provided with indexes reading against two scales in the pillar, one indicating the distance between fixed and movable stops, and the other the height of the movable stop above the surface plate. The movable stop C<2> is formed with a thin scribing edge and is adjustable by the screw C<3>, a scale C<4> being provided graduated to the extent of half a division on the scale D in both directions from zero. A fine adjustment screw F and a clamp G may be provided.
