Gauges.-Comprises a method of and means for comparing two lengths, the positions of which are interchanged relatively to a level. A massive base a mounted on levelling screws b has rotatably mounted upon. it a table c. The table has a truly flat upper surface parallel with a truly flat annular under surface resting on the truly flat upper surface of an annular fitting d mounted in a recess in the base a. A bubble level g, graduated at each end is carried in a holder which is vertically adjustable on and horizontally adjustable from a standard m. The level has a base l with a three-point support, or, alternatively, two balls k may be used, bearing on either of the two objects under comparison, and a guide wire g<1> on the gauge bears between two wires g<2> on the holder. A series of slip gauges as described in Specification 141,770, [Class 60, Grinding or abrading &c.], may be wrung together and compared with a standard. The table c has two facets to receive the gauge column and the standard, the level being lowered to bear on the tops of each, and the reading noted. The level is then raised and the table rotated by means of the wooden ring c<1> until the positions of the column and standard are interchanged when another reading is taken. The difference between the readings is a measure of the difference between the height of the gaugecolumn and the standard.
