Abstract

1292176 Lifting tongs BRITISH STEEL CORP 30 July 1971 [4 Aug 1970] 37524/70 Heading B8H The jaws 34, 35 of a lifting tongs are constrained to be movable in a rectilinear path by means of pins 44, 45 engaged in slots 42, 43 in a frame 6. The jaws are connected to a lifting beam 4, adapted to be supported by a crane, by links 32, 33 which are pivotally connected by pins 40, 41 to the jaws and by pins 36, 37 to arms 23, 24, the arms 23, 24 being connected by links 21, 22 to the lifting beam. The pins 36, 37 engage in slots 38, 39 in the frame 6 and pins 26, 27 between the links 21, 22 and the arms 23, 24 engage in slots 28, 29. As described, two pairs of lifting tongs are supported from the lifting beam 4, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), and a latch device is provided for holding the jaws open.
