Abstract

1291161 Dividing glass sheets CENTRAL GLASS CO Ltd 10 Nov 1970 [1 Dec 1969] 53421/70 Heading C1M Glass sheets are divided along a scored line 14 by conveying the sheets along a set of conveyer rolls 2 to a cutting roll 3 which is raised relative to the conveyer rolls 2 and directing jets of a fluid such as air on to an area of the sheet overlying the roll 3 from a jet box 23, so that when the scored line 14 overlies the line of contact between the sheet and cutting roll the score line is broken open by the fluid pressure on each side of the line 14. The jet box 23 is secured to a square supporting plate 6 and includes a bottom wall provided with an upwardly extending cone-shaped protuberance 25 for controlling the air flow and a plurality of obliquely extending nozzles 24. The plate 6 is carried on two supporting rods 7 extending in the conveying direction which are in turn slidably supported on sockets 21, 21<SP>1</SP> mounted on cradle rods 8, 8<SP>1</SP> so that the position of the jet box may be adjusted. The jet box is supplied with air from a blower 11 via a pipe 13. A second set of conveyer rolls 5 which run at a higher speed than the rolls 2 removes the divided glass sheet.
