Abstract

1290119 Making spectacle frames ROBERT HELLERICH KG 23 April 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 10930/71 Heading B3A A process of making polygonal spectacle glass rims comprises cutting a profiled wire 1 into pieces of the desired length feeding each piece through a curved passage to prebend said piece and then subjecting each piece to an automatically controlled, intermittent hammering operation to form predetermined bends in said piece after it has been prebent. The wire is fed through a guide 2 by gripping jaws 3 to cutter blades 4 which cut the wire into pieces 5. Each piece is then pushed through a guide 6 which merges into curved passages 7a and 7b formed in bending dies 8a and 8b (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). A stationary guide roller 9 positioned at the outlet of the passage is succeeded by a roller 11 mounted on a carriage 10. A hammering movement is imparted to the roller 11, by pneumatic or hydraulic power and is controlled by a pivoted rod 13 provided with recesses a to d which engage a roller 10a carried by the carriage 10. A second hammering movement at an angle to the first is electrically controlled by cams e to h on the rod 13 which control a pneumatically or hydraulically driven hammer lever 14. Whereas the lens rim has been slightly bent forwardly by the first meniscus bending the rim it is bent back into its plane by the second hammering movement. A blade 20 for marking the bridge bow position precedes the bending dies and is controlled by the rod 13.
