Abstract

1289708 Rotary drum filter WS-UTRUSTNING AB 23 Dec 1969 [24 April 1969] 62561/69 Heading B1D An outward flow perforated rotary filter drum 1 has a series of helical and part-helical blades 7 to 13 attached to its interior, which blades are axially spaced and convey the solids fraction of slurry delivered by nozzle 6 along the drum to the discharge end. Blades 7, 8, 10 and 12 urge the solids rightwards, but blades 11 and 13 urge them leftwards to reduce their general rightward flow rate. Blade 9 extends axially and lifts a fraction of the slurry moving rightwards and drops it back into the less deliquified slurry to the left. The perforations in the left-hand part of the drum are smaller than in the right-hand part, the solids tending to cake as they move rightwards. The drum is supported by rollers 14, 15 and may be slightly inclined. Drive motor (2) engages ring gear 4 (Fig. 2, not shown). The drum exterior is shielded by wall (19), towards which nozzle 6 opens, and is cleaned by brush (18), driven by contact with the drum and possibly supplied with wash liquid. The direction of nozzle 6 towards drum 1 is stated to clean the drum wall. The filter is used to dewater paper pulp or remove coolant from machine tool swarf.
