Abstract

1289510 Calenders BELOIT CORP 20 Oct 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 51311/69 Heading D2A [Also in Division F2] A calender stack for calendering paper comprises a bottom roll 10, alternate crown and plain rolls 11, 12 carried by pivoted arms 25, 67, fluid-pressure operated diaphragms 31, 35 for moving the arms 25 and crown rolls 11 to relieve or load the nip between the rolls, and' similar diaphragms 75 for raising the plain rolls, each crown roll having a shell 19 rotatably mounted on a shaft 21 and fluid-pressure operated shoes 47, 48 acting between the shaft and the shell for respectively controlling the crown of the roll or loading the nip between the crown roll and the adjacent plain roll. The roll 10 may be plated with chrome or nickel for finishing and it is driven, and selected rolls 11 may also be driven, and the roll 10 may be a controlled crown roll with a pressure shoe similar to the shoe 47.
