Abstract

1286791 Rendering materials oil-repellent BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 14 Jan 1970 [15 Jan 1969] 1776/70 Heading DIP [Also in Division C2] Substrates are rendered oil-repellent by treatment with a fluoroamide of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or fluorine, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R<SP>3</SP> is C 2-6 alkylene, R<SP>4</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl optionally substituted by halogen atoms or hydroxy, cyano, or aziridinyl radicals, R<SP>5</SP> is C 2-6 alkylene, n is 4 to 11 and Z is 1 or 2. Substrates specified are wood, surface coatings, plastics, and natural and synthetic fibres, e.g. wool, silk, polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitriles, cellulose esters, natural and regenerated cellulose, e.g. cotton, and mixtures thereof. The treatment may be effected from solution, emulsion or dispersion by conventional spraying, dipping or padding methods, followed by drying and heat-curing. The fluoroamide may be applied together with one or more heat curable polymer-forming substances, those specified being polymethylol compounds, and ethers thereof, of urea, monoalkylureas, cyclic ureas, e.g. N,N' - ethylene urea, N,N' - 1,2 or 1,3 - propyleneurea, 5 - hydroxy - hexahydropyrimidone - 2, 4 - hydroxy - and alkoxy - 5, 5 - dialkyl - hexahydropyrimid - 2 - ones hexahydro - 1,3,5 - triazine - 2 - ones and their 5 - alkyl and -hydroxyalkyl derivatives, 4,5 - dihydroxy - imidazolone - 2, and urones, of carbamate esters, e.g. ethyl, propyl, butyl, # - hydroxyethyl, # - methoxyethyl and octyl carbamates, ethyl - N - methyl carbamate, butyl - N - ethyl - carbamate, and dicarbamate and di - N - ethyl - carbamate esters of ethylene glycol, 1,3 - butanediol, 1,4 - butanediol and 1,6 - hexanediol; of aminotriazines, e.g. melamine, ammeline and ammelide, and of guanidine, dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine, thiourea and glyoxaldiurine. One or more heat curing catalysts may be used, e.g. hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, oxalic acid, glycolic acid, maleic acid, monochloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, esters thereof, or salts thereof, e.g. ammonium chloride, sulphate, phosphate and nitrate, dimonoethanolamine hydrogen phosphate, ethanolamine hydrochloride, 1 - hydroxy - 2 - methyl - propylamine hydrochloride, magnesium chloride, aluminium chloride, zinc chloride, nitrate and fluoborate and zirconyl chloride.
