Abstract

1285330 Mould; making casting moulds FRIED KRUPP HUTTENWERKE AG 21 June 1971 [20 June 1970] 28949/71 Headings B3A and B3F [Also in Division C7] A centrifugal casting mould has inner and outer metallic tubes 2 and 1, and an intermediate tube 4 of granulated metallic material. The intermediate tube 4 may also contain one or more bars in the form of a framework or lattice, or one or more helically wound strips. The thickness of the inner tube 2 is preferably within the range 3 to 10 mm., that of the intermediate tube between 5 and 15 mm., and that of the outer tube 1 between 15 and 40 mm. The mould may be made by first forming the intermediate tube 4 by introducing granulated metallic material into an auxiliary tube and passing through a stripper to define the layer thickness of granulated material and then effecting a partial melting down of the material by the action of a welding head, forming a tube 2 of metallic material on the internal surface of the tube 4 by build-up welding and then forming the outer tube 1 by build-up welding. Alternatively the outer tube 1 may be formed first and the material for the intermediate tube 4 introduced thereinto. The latter is then partly melted and the inner tube 2 formed by build-up welding. All the tubes are formed of steel but each has a different composition from the others.
