Abstract

1284447 Friction gearing HIGHFIELD GEARS Ltd 29 Oct 1969 [9 May 1969] 23689/69 Heading F2Q A planetary friction drive for a fan 10 comprises a standard ball or roller bearing 19 having a fixed inner race 18 and an outer race 28 rigid with the fan 10, the bearing cage 25 being drivingly connected to a driving shaft 10. As shown, a ring 21 keyed to the shaft 11 is urged towards the bearing 19 by a spring 26 and has an axially projecting pin 24 engaging a bore in the cage 25. The spring 26 provides an end load on the bearing 19 to produce the necessary frictional grip between the balls and the races.
