Abstract
1284049 Cartridge-actuated fastener driving tools IMPEX-ESSEN VERTRIEB VON WERKZEUGEN GmbH 19 April 1971 [30 May 1970] 26783/71 Heading B4C A cartridge-actuated fastener driving tool comprises a thrust plunger 2 displaceable by the combustion gases from a detonated cartridge 3, the thrust plunger 2 having its rearward end arranged to be received in a propulsion chamber 1<SP>1</SP>. A cartridge chamber 5 issues into the propulsion chamber 1<SP>1</SP> and receives a cartridge 3. The base 3<SP>1</SP> of the cartridge faces towards the propulsion chamber 1<SP>1</SP> so that the cartridge case is ejected into the propulsion chamber by gas pressure after detonation. Desired rupture areas for the cartridge case in the form of three inclined slots 2<SP>1</SP> are provided in the wall of the cartridge chamber adjacent to the propulsion chamber, so that internal/external pressure can be quickly equalized when the tool is operated. One side wall 2<SP>11</SP> of each slot 2<SP>1</SP> meets the cartridge chamber wall to form a sharp edge, and the other side wall 2<SP>111</SP> meets the chamber wall in a smooth curve. The cartridge thus ruptures along the sharp edge and further splitting and disintegration are prevented.
