Abstract

1282800 Antiskid braking systems FIAT SpA 17 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969 11 Dec 1970] 59987/70 Heading F2F An antiskid braking system has a solenoid valve 26 controlling hydraulic fluid flow from a pump 10 to a reservoir 14 to control the pressure applied to a wheel cylinder 20 and being driven by a pedal operated potentiometer 34 the solenoid 28 being operable through an antiskid signal fed from a tachogenerator 54 denoting incipient wheel lock to exhaust the pump delivery to the reservoir 14 when the wheel deceleration exceeds a predetermined limit. In the embodiment shown the solenoid valve 26 comprises a valve member 88 which opens an inlet 96 to an outlet passage 86, the communication between these passages being progressively closed during normal braking to allow fluid to pressurise wheel cylinder 20 as the potentiometer output varies with pedal travel. The potentiometer is fed with a constant voltage supply 35 and its output passes via preamplifier 36, capacitor 38 and conductor 42 to a junction 43. When wheel-lock is detected the tachogenerator signal passes by way of capacitor 56, parallel resistor 58, conductor 60, Schmitt trigger 62 and conductor 64 to an NPN transistor 52 and then to junction 43. A voltage source 53 is then caused to pass a voltage to the junction 43 and then to a power amplifier 46 which delivers maximum power to the solenoid 26 allowing the valve to relieve braking pressure. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the normally closed valve 26 is replaced by a normally open solenoid valve (126), transistor (152) is of the PNP type and the sliding contact (132) is biased in its rest position to the low voltage end of the potentiometer 34.
