Abstract
1282470 Washing machines BLACKSTONE CORP 30 Sept 1969 [10 Oct 1968] 47992/69 Heading D1A Two separate control means 25, 31 selectively energised by a manual switch 30 are provided in a washing machine comprising an agitator 16 within a spin basket 12 within a tub 11, means for selectively operating the agitator 16 and spin basket 12 to wash and spin dry clothes in the basket, a discharge pump 20 to remove water from the tub 11, a nozzle 24 for spraying water into the basket, and a valve 22 for supplying water to the nozzle 24, the first control means 25 simultaneously acting on the means for operating the spinner basket and water supply valve 22 and discharge pump 20 to sequentially spin the basket and operate the discharge pump 20, stop the basket, spin the basket and supply water through the nozzle 24 while operating the discharge pump 20 until all the wash liquid is removed from the clothes in the basket, then stop the water supply while continuing the spin and water discharge and finally stopping the basket and the second control means 31 also acting on the means for operating the spin basket and the water supply and discharge means to sequentially spin the basket and operate the discharge pump 20, spin the basket and additionally spray water into the basket through the nozzle 24, then stop the motor and fill the tub for a deep rinse, preferably operate the agitator 16, and then operate the discharge pump and spin the basket. The spinner basket and the agitator are selectively driven by a reversible electric motor 18 and a bi-directional clutch drive, the pump 20 recirculating water during washing and discharging water when the motor is reversed and the spinner basket rotated. The control means which is a sequential electric timer circuit also includes a timer 21 for the wash cycle. The circuit may be modified to provide two water spraying and spin drying operations separated by a draining period when the motor 18 is stopped.
