Abstract

1281896 Rotatably mounting on shafts; bearings DAVID BROWN TRACTORS Ltd 14 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 25527/69 Headings F2A and F2U A shaft 10 has splines 11 with grooves 15 therebetween, each of which has a bearing member 14 located therein. The bearing member 14 may be made of bronze, may be cylindrically shaped, may be sintered, and may be cut from extruded bar. A bearing surface 16 of each member 14 protrudes radially beyond the tips of the splines 11. Clearance is provided between the sides of the member 14 and the groove 15. Each member 14 has a depression 20 formed therein and the depressions of two diametrically-opposed members 14 are connected to an oil-supply bore 17, via radial passages 18 formed in the shaft 10. Oil is conveyed to the bearing surfaces 16 via said clearances and by means of the relative rotation between the shaft 10 and a gear 12 mounted thereon. The members 14 are radially retained by the gear 12 and are axially retained by splined thrust washers 21 and circlips 22 which are located in grooves 23 formed in the shaft 10.
