1281681 Stacking articles such as bags; feeding U-shaped members; delivering sheets R B CLEMENTS 16 July 1969 [18 April 1968] 18363/68 Headings B8C B8R and B8S In a device for receiving, stacking and transferring articles such as polythene bags, the latter, provided with a pair of holes, are threaded, one at a time, over the upstanding arms 22 of a U-shaped member 20 which is temporarily held in a loading, position in a track 10 by a clamping member 42 and, after sufficient bags have been loaded, a carriage 30 is moved to engage the next U-shaped member at the end of a row of members 20 in a track 16, 18 and push it along the track 10 to engage the loaded member 20 and transfer the latter further along the track 10 as the clamping member 42 is released, the succeeding member 20 replacing the loaded member 20 and being clamped by the member 42 at the loading position. The members 20 in the track 16, 18 are spring-urged towards the track 10 and, after the leading member 20 has been transferred along the track by the carriage 30, the outlet from the track 16, 18 is blocked by a spring-loaded member 38, the carriage 30 again displacing the member 38 after returning from its transfer reciprocation to its initial position where the next leading member 20 is urged into the track 10 ready for subsequent transfer to the loading position. The carriage 30 is mounted upon slide bars 26, 28 is connected to the rod 34 of a double-acting air cylinder 36, and has an extension 32 which projects into the track 10 to engage a member 20 being transferred. A continuous conveyer belt, with means for engaging the lower portions of the members 20, may replace the carriage 30. The carriage 30, or the conveyer, may be intermittently movable in response to a signal received from a bag-counting device, not shown.
