1281459 Handbag skin material R A LABOMBARDE 1 Dec 1970 [2 March 1970] 57122/70 Heading B8R [Also in Division B5] A transfer apparatus 51 for shifting successive blanks 31 from a first section 27 laterally into a second section 28, comprising a pair of opposed pressure rolls 55, 56 for advancing blanks into a transfer zone 29 whilst firmly gripping each blank to prevent premature lateral shift and resilient means 70 mounted opposite the second section 28 for engagement and deformation by an edge 46 of each blank to flick each blank towards the second section 28 upon its release from the nip 57 of rolls 55, 56. The resilient means 70 may be leaf springs, a slippery surfaced inflated bag, coil springs or recoil arms of rigid material. A friction roll 75 is mounted in the transfer zone 29 and contacts the blanks at a level slightly above the level of the nip 57 allowing the leading edge of a next successive blank to pass under the trailing edge of the preceding blank. The pressure rolls 55, 56 and the friction roll 75 may be driven by a separate drive means through an overrunning clutch 82 independently of the remainder of the machine, so that the blanks are always advanced into the transfer zone at a speed sufficient to impact an adjustable end stop 61.
