Abstract

1280397 Silica sols PHILADELPHIA QUARTZ CO 14 April 1970 17599/70 Heading C1A A silica sol is prepared by contacting metallic silicon with a solution of an inorganic alkali metal compound having a pH of above 11 and at a temperature of from 50-100‹ C. to form a silica sol having a mole ratio of SiO 2 /M 2 O of at least 25 (where M = alkali metal). The base may be NaOH, KOH, or a soluble alkali metal silicate.
