Abstract

1279891 Applying container covers HOFLIGER & KARG 5 May 1970 [8 May 1969] 21499/70 Heading B8C In order to ensure the correct registration of a cover web 2, e.g. aluminium, upon a container chain 1 formed by deep-drawing recesses in a foil web, the leading edge 10 of the cover web 2 is secured by a sealer 3, 4 on to the leading edge of the uncovered portion of the container chain whilst an adjacent downstream severed section 9 of the cover web is being secured also by the sealer 3, 4 on to an appropriate part of the container chain. The cover web 2 and container chain 1 are fed intermittently under the control of a photo-electric cell 5 responsive to indicia equally spaced along the cover web 2. Each cover web section is severed by a cutter 8 during or following the sealing operation. The photoelectric cell 5, cutter 8 and feed rollers 6, 7 are mounted on a movable support 11 so that cover web sections of different lengths may be accommodated.
