Abstract

1278695 Restoring shape of articles APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc 7 July 1969 [15 July 1968] 34089/69 Heading B3Q A method of straightening parts of damaged vehicles comprises positioning a vehicle on a platform, pivotally anchoring an actuator to the platform, connecting the actuator through forcetransmitting means to the damaged part and operating the actuator. Apparatus for performing the method comprises longitudinal, lateral and corner beams 13L1-4, 13T1-7, 13E set in concrete and providing slots 24 for clamps 51, Fig. 8, secured by edges 67, 69. Each clamp has a socket 49 for receiving the spherical end 47 of an actuator and a slot 68 for retaining an adjustable rigid or flexible transmitting means, e.g. a chain 58, Fig. 4. As used in Fig. 4, the chain 58 pulls outwardly at A when the hydraulic actuator 41 is extended, a pin 76 locking the chain to the actuator. The chain and actuator may be arranged in different ways, Figs. 12, 13, 14 (not shown). The chain 58C, Fig. 15, is fixed at both ends to the platform, and a rigid strut 81 bears down on the part to be straightened, the strut having a nipple, Fig. 15A (not shown), at one end engaging the actuator and a saddle 82 at the other. One end of an actuator (41B), Fig. 16 (not shown), may press against the vehicle close to a point (84) being pulled out by a chain tensioned by a further actuator (41). Another form, Fig. 17 (not shown), uses connected chains (58, 90) for pulling downwardly.
