1278679 2 - Alkyl - 4 - nitroimidazoles BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 7 Nov 1969 [9 Nov 1968] 54642/69 Heading C2C 2-Alkyl-4-nitroimidazoles are produced by the nitration of 2-alkylimidazoles with nitric acid in the presence of sulphuric acid and urea at elevated temperature. The preferred alkyl groups are those having 1-4 carbon atoms, e.g. methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl and n-butyl. Examples are given of the preparation of 2-methyl-, 2-ethyl- and 2-isopropyl-4-nitroimidazoles.
