1278633 Colour television tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 July 1969 [26 July 1968 27 Feb 1969] 37079/69 Heading H1D A colour TV display c.r.t. comprises a substantially rectangular colour selection electrode (e.g. shadow mask 15) supported by suspension members 11 each leg 12 of which may be slotted and curves first through angles between but not including 90 to 180 degrees, and then curves in an outward direction and bears at at least three positions 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>11</SP> against sides (5) and back (2<SP>1</SP>) of recess (3) (Fig. 1, not shown) in rim (2) of the rectangular window. Each member is of resilient strip secured to the mask by resilient suspension strip 7 and bears against locating surface such as (6) for preventing displacement toward the screen. The locating surface may be the upper side of the thickened recess portion when side projections (33) (Fig. 10, not shown) are provided. The opposite walls of each recess may make an angle with the end surface of between 92 and 97 degrees. Supporting strip 8 may be welded to flange 16 with bent edge 10 welded to strip 7, which latter is at right angles to the electron paths in the tube corners, thermal expansion resulting in movement towards the screen. Strip 7 may not be an integral part of strip 11 (Fig. 5, not shown) and strips 11 and (18) may be different materials to increase rigidity and/or mask displacement on heating or to increase strip-glass friction as when the strip oxidizes on welding the cone and tube portions. Lugs (14) improve contact and notches (19) may be provided in the curved sides of the suspension member. Strips (18) may be entirely or partially bimetal and like strips (7) may be tapered or V-shaped (21) (Fig. 7, not shown). The end wall of the recess may be discontinuous (Fig. 8, not shown) and without lower locating ledges (Fig. 9, not shown). The corners (31) or whole bottom of strip (7) may be bent to prevent scratching the tube (Fig. 10, not shown), the part (29) reducing tilting of the suspension member (Fig. 11, not shown). The mask may include a heavy supporting frame (34) (Fig. 12, not shown).
