Abstract

1278145 Mixing liquids in flow in proportions E S POSGATE 4 June 1970 [26 June 1969] 26995/70 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] Raising a liquid from a reservoir 12 and supplying metered doses of such liquid to a fluid flowing in a conduit 14, is effected by connecting an eductor 16 to the reservoir 12 by means of a flexible tube 18 and intermittently subjecting the tube 18 to bending means 20. The tube is held within a clamp 28 one side of which is acted upon by a spring 30 tending to kink the tube such that flow therethrough is terminated, (Fig. 2, not shown), and the other side of which is secured to a shoulder 24 extending away from the armature 26 of a solenoid 22. When actuated, the solenoid moves the armature in opposition to spring 30. The ratio of liquid and fluid mixed at the eductor 16 is predeterminable by appropriate setting of a current-controlling timer 34 connected in series with the solenoid, or the latter may be actuated in dependence upon, e.g. a device for continuously analysing the fluid in the conduit 14. Additional control is possible by incorporating a valve 38 in an eductor bypass line 40. Figures 3 to 5, not shown, depict modifications wherein the eductor is omitted. A stop is positioned in the path of shoulder 24 such that the two co-operate to perform a pumping action. Also, spring 30 may be rendered adjustable in its tension.
