Abstract

1278045 Carding flats CARDING SPECIALISTS (CANADA) Ltd 17 July 1969 [18 June 1968 30 July 1968 20 March 1968] 28897/68 36244/68 and 14694/69 Heading DIN A carding machine flat comprises a foundation having a smooth surface with wires protruding therefrom by an amount such that when the flat is in use fibres are only momentarily arrested by the wires and are not permanently retained by the wires. The wires may protrude by up to 0.04". In use the flat is stationarily mounted and can be adjustably positioned. The adjustment can be effected by threaded bolts which pass through the edges of the flats (Fig. 2 not shown) or by adjustment of a support carrying a plurality of flats. The wires may cover part or all of the surface of the flat (Figs. 3-8 not shown). A plurality of flats may be arranged in abutting or adjustably spaced relationship around the carding cylinder. Some of the flats may have a plain or granular surface which may have wires projecting from it. The stationary flats may be used in combination with the usual revolving flats. The flats may be mounted on chains so as to be moved for replacement by alternative flats having a different arrangement of wires. A carding machine fitted with the stationary adjustable flats can be arranged with a feed roller assembly (3), licker-in (2), doffer 4, stripper (6), redirecting roller (27), pressure rollers (28) and fed to coiler 32, (Fig. 1 not shown). A levelling roller (20) and associated stripper roller (21) may also be provided (Fig. 10 not shown).
