Abstract

1277944 Chromating Zn surfaces NIPPON STEEL CORP 18 July 1969 [20 July 1968] 36328/69 Heading C7U Surfaces of Zn or Zn alloys are coated with a solution of chromic acid and colloidal silica and dried to form a thick surface film. Excess coating solution is removed from the surface by squeezerolls or gas-blowing, and where the coated article is to be used without further fabrication, a solution containing 1-20 g/l chromic acid and 1-70 g/l siO 2 is used, but for articles still to be shaped, the amounts should be more than 18 and 50 g/l respectively. Part of the hexavalent Cr may be reduced to the trivalent state by sucrose or electrolysis using carbon electrodes.
