Abstract

1277856 Tanning leather W R GRACE & CO 17 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 59980/70 Heading C6C A composition for use with or without a vegetable tanning agent on untanned hides or in the retanning of chrome-tanned hides to produce a light-coloured, soft-texture leather consists of 50 to 99À9% by weight of an alkali metal salt, preferably sodium, of a polymerized naphthalene sulphonic acid and 0À1 to 50% by weight of an organic compound which sequesters chromium and/or iron, e.g. citric acid, ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid, N, N-di (hydroxyethyl)-glycine, nitrilotriacetic acid and the alkali metal, especially sodium, salts of these acids.
